TL;DR

Payhip is an e-commerce platform for creators selling digital products, online courses, memberships, coaching and physical goods. It has three plans with identical features: Free Forever ($0 a month, 5% per sale), Plus ($29 a month, 2%) and Pro ($99 a month, 0%). PayPal or Stripe processing fees are charged on top. Money lands in your own PayPal or Stripe account right after each sale, and Payhip handles EU and UK VAT and, since July 2026, US sales tax on digital products. Rated 4.5 on Trustpilot from about 540 reviews.

How Much Does Payhip Cost?

Payhip has one unusual rule that makes the choice easy: every plan has the same features. You are only choosing how you want to pay, a percentage per sale or a monthly fee.

PlanMonthly feePayhip fee per saleCheapest when monthly sales are
Free Forever$05%Below about $970
Plus$292%About $970 to $3,500
Pro$990%Above $3,500

The break-even points are simple arithmetic: Plus saves 3% on each sale, so its $29 pays for itself at about $967 of monthly sales; Pro saves another 2%, so its extra $70 pays off above $3,500. There is no annual billing, so you can move between plans as your sales change.

Remember the payment processor. PayPal and Stripe charge their standard rates on every sale, typically around 2.9% plus 30 cents per card payment in the US, so on the free plan the total cost of a sale is roughly 8% plus the fixed amount.

Is Payhip Really Free?

Yes, and more genuinely than most "free plans". Payhip's Free Forever plan is not a trial and not a cut-down version: you get unlimited products, courses, memberships, coupons, the affiliate system and email tools. The only cost is the 5% Payhip keeps from each sale, plus the processor's fee. No card is needed to sign up.

That makes Payhip one of the lowest-risk ways to start selling a digital product: if nothing sells, you pay nothing. When sales grow past roughly $970 a month, switching to Plus lowers your costs.

How Do You Sign Up and Start Selling on Payhip?

  1. Create a free account. Email and password, no card.
  2. Connect how you get paid. Link PayPal or Stripe; Payhip supports 13 processors in total, including Mollie, Square, Razorpay and Mercado Pago in their regions.
  3. Add your first product. Upload an ebook or file, or create a course, membership or coaching product, and set the price.
  4. Customize your store. Choose a theme, add your logo and, if you want, connect your own domain at no extra cost.
  5. Share the link. Every product has its own page and checkout; you can embed buy buttons on your own site too.
  6. Grow it. Add coupons, upsells, an email list and affiliates who promote your products for a commission.

What Can You Sell on Payhip?

  • Ebooks and digital downloads: PDFs, templates, music, software and other files, with automatic delivery and PDF stamping.
  • Online courses: lessons, quizzes, drip content and completion certificates.
  • Memberships: monthly or yearly subscriptions with members-only content.
  • Coaching: bookable sessions with Zoom and Calendly.

Selling an ebook is the most common starting point, and it is where Payhip shines: upload the file, set a price and share the link. If you are still choosing what to sell, our free guide 5 Side Hustles With AI covers digital products as one of the options.

How Does Payhip Handle Payments, Taxes and Payouts?

  • Payouts are immediate. Each sale is deposited straight into your PayPal or Stripe account; there is no Payhip balance, hold or minimum. Withdrawals then follow PayPal's or Stripe's schedule.
  • VAT is handled. For digital products sold to EU and UK buyers, Payhip calculates, collects and remits VAT automatically.
  • US sales tax is handled too. Since July 1, 2026, Payhip collects and remits US sales tax as a marketplace facilitator, at no cost to sellers.
  • Buyer refunds are your call. Each seller sets and handles their own refund policy.

What Marketing Tools Does Payhip Include?

  • Coupons and discounts, including limited-time and product-specific codes.
  • Upsells and cross-sells at checkout.
  • A built-in affiliate program: other people can promote your products for a commission you set, with a 30-day cookie. Payhip tracks the sales and gives you a monthly report; you pay your affiliates yourself.
  • Email marketing to your customers, plus integrations with Mailchimp and Kit (ConvertKit).
  • A blog and store builder, and Zapier for connecting other apps.

Separately, Payhip runs its own partner program for people who refer new sellers to Payhip. This site is part of it, which is how the links on this page are paid.

Is Payhip Legit? What Do Sellers Say?

Payhip is a legitimate, established platform. In September 2026 it rated 4.5 on Trustpilot from about 540 reviews (79% five stars), 4.5 on Capterra from 28 reviews, and 4.7 on G2 from a handful.

What sellers like

  • Very fast setup and a clean checkout.
  • A free plan with every feature, not a trial.
  • Tax handling that most small sellers could not manage alone.
  • Responsive support from named people.

What sellers complain about

  • Occasional account closures or product removals with little warning, the most serious complaint.
  • Funds frozen by PayPal or Stripe, which Payhip does not control.
  • Basic design controls and thin analytics compared with bigger platforms.
  • No marketplace: Payhip will not bring you buyers, you bring your own traffic.

The practical takeaways: keep your own copy of your files and customer list, read the content rules before uploading, and plan your own marketing from day one.

Payhip: Common Questions

Is Payhip free?

Yes. Payhip's Free Forever plan costs nothing per month and includes every feature; Payhip takes a 5% fee on each sale instead. Paid plans lower that fee: Plus is $29 a month with a 2% fee, and Pro is $99 a month with no Payhip fee.

What are Payhip's fees?

Payhip charges 5% per sale on the free plan, 2% on Plus ($29 a month) and 0% on Pro ($99 a month). On top of that, PayPal or Stripe charge their normal processing fees, typically around 2.9% plus 30 cents per card payment in the US.

Which Payhip plan should I choose?

Stay on Free until your sales pass about $970 a month; above that, Plus costs less. Pro becomes cheaper than Plus once you sell more than $3,500 a month. The features are identical, so the choice is only about fees.

Is Payhip legit?

Yes. Payhip is an established platform rated 4.5 on Trustpilot from about 540 reviews in September 2026. Sellers praise the easy setup, the free plan and responsive support; the main complaints are occasional account or product removals and payment processor holds.

How does Payhip pay you?

Payments go straight into your own PayPal or Stripe account immediately after each sale, so there is no Payhip payout schedule or minimum. Withdrawals then follow PayPal's or Stripe's own timing.

Does Payhip handle VAT and sales tax?

Yes, for digital products Payhip handles EU and UK VAT automatically, and since July 1, 2026 it also handles US sales tax as a marketplace facilitator at no extra cost to sellers.

Is there a Payhip coupon or discount code?

Not for Payhip's own plans. Most 'Payhip coupon' results are codes for products sold by Payhip sellers, not discounts on Payhip. The cheapest real option is the Free Forever plan, which has every feature.

Can you sell courses and memberships on Payhip?

Yes. Besides digital downloads, Payhip supports online courses with quizzes, drip content and certificates, memberships with monthly or yearly billing, coaching sessions with Zoom and Calendly, physical products and bundles.

Is Payhip Worth It, in One Paragraph?

For anyone selling ebooks, courses or memberships to an audience they already have, Payhip is one of the best-value ways to start: the free plan includes everything and only costs you when you sell, payouts are instant, and VAT and US sales tax are handled. Start free, move to Plus above roughly $970 a month in sales, and to Pro above $3,500. Just remember it will not find buyers for you, and keep backups of your files and customer list.

How this was assessed: this page is based on Payhip's official pricing and product pages, its terms, public ratings on review platforms and the pages that currently rank for these searches, all read in September 2026. It is not a report from inside a paid account, and it does not claim to be.

I have worked in affiliate marketing since 2020, mostly on global product launches: the coordinated releases where a program opens for a fixed window and partners drive registrations and sales. Across those launches I have generated more than $1 million in tracked sales as an affiliate.

That is the lens these reviews are written through. I read the official pages and partner terms before writing, I cover programs I am a partner for, and I say so at the top of every review. More about how these reviews are made.
